AWPC World Championships Manchester 2018 90 Open Raw Raw

Travelled up on the Wednesday evening.
Weighed in thurs am at 88.6kg.

Friday lifted.

Met the guys in my class at warm up. A 4th chap didn’t show.

Knew I’d be in good stead as my last warm up was higher than the other guys opener.

195x1 - was a bullet

Squat:

Attempt 1: 215 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji837]
Attempt 2: 230 [emoji837][emoji837][emoji837] Depth
Attempt 3: 230 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji836]️

Dropped my opener and subsequent attempts having seen the attempts of the other guys in my class. My second attempt was high and I knew it. Came up too easy. Having leaned up in the run up to comp, meant my belt was on a hole tighter, it’s this tightness I use to gauge depth. Made sure I felt more pressure than normal in attempt 3, and buried it. Happy with bar speed. Plenty more on the tank if needed.

Bench warm up went, band pull aparts, face pulls, scarecrows.

20x10x2
60x1
100x1
140x1

Bench:

Attempt 1: 150 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji836]️
Attempt 2: 157.5 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji836]️
Attempt 3: 162.5 [emoji837][emoji837][emoji837]

Dropped opener 5kg and moved through attempts 1 and 2 fairly straight forward. Went for a comp PB of 2.5kg, award that the last 3 weeks leading up to comp I’ve been having work done on my pec minor and bicep long and short heads, so when my shoulder started to roll forward I canned the rep. Safe with some lead in the class.

Deadlift was babying my hands, went

70x1
110x1
140x1
190x1 - easy

Deadlift:

Attempt 1: 220 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji836]️
Attempt 2: 235 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji836]️
Attempt 3: 267.5 [emoji836]️[emoji836]️[emoji836]️

Dropped opener 25kg. New this would hold me in good position for the win and trying to baby my hands which have been falling apart with psoriasis.
2nd attempt was to extend my lead significantly.

Only required some skin to be pulled off after . 3rd attempt was a 3xBW pull. Moved the fastest I’ve ever pulled 3xBW. Plenty there if needed/hand hold up.

Happy with how I lifted. Tactical attempts over balls out. Didn’t want to through away a competition because of ego getting in the way.

Minimum effective action is the best action. 655 PB comp total.

On reflection I’m pretty disappointed. Wish more completion had turned up. I’m tired but I’m not smashed. I put up lifts at around 90%. Could have been a gym day. Just a bit saddening that I won by so much over the other and didn’t have to try loads. Will put up some pbs and take British records in next comp.

For information:

The other guys went

Squat: 185/200
Bench: 135/142.5
Deadlift: 235/240

And

Squat: 190/200/210
Bench: 130/140
Deadlift: 220/240

Vs me

Squat: 215/230
Bench: 150/157.5
Deadlift: 220/235/267.5

So as you can see I was miles ahead by the start of deads.
