T M : Competitors

Competitor
TM was always known for competitors whether it was SM, PL or BB.

Over the years there has been some incredible competitors:-

BB : Con, Incredible Bulk, JP, James Watts et al.
SM : Eurgar, MikeX, Rick89 et al.
PL : Sam Bollands et al.

World champions, World records, British champions, British records………

About 2 to 3 years ago there seemed to be mainly PL with RS86, Dig, LittleLiam et al flying the flag.

Since that last bunch there seems to be a lack of competitors coming through. Anybody planning to step up to the plate?

Lack of quality/muscle/strength/balls? Immense phaggotry? Too busy on IG/FaceBook? What has happened to the next generation? Any ideas?

My guess is too busy with immense phaggotry and self promotion on IG. Or being an internet coach.

Maybe also less interest these days is dieting to near death for 16 weeks, to get covered in fake tan and prance about a stage in bikini bottoms like a Kansas city phaggot for 10 mins.

I am guessing there are other forums that PLs etc use, certainly used to the case 10+ years ago. Hence why nobody here.

We do have the legend that is Mobster though.

You forgot @pooley1810 and I think noel competes sometimes.
You are signed up for Q4 BBing show so looking forward to see how that comes together.

They have already competed in the past though, haven't they? Maybe I should have mentioned them but this thread is about new blood.

Regarding myself competing : both of my competitors are MIA/mental institutions so I have shelved my plans as it is not fair on the competition. The sheer panic of the GWS coming for them literally frightens them to death.........

Most people don’t put much weight in to travelling to compete against one or two other people or god forbid even on your own for a plastic trophy, no prize money etc etc in an empty sports hall or someone’s gym

Everyone loves to train and be strong and look good these days. That is as far as it goes for 99%

These days no one is arsed. It is what it is

If you look cracking or your strong as fuck there’s no denying it. Pics, vids etc online on social media or YouTube show case it. Hence the low interest in competing

So you think that competing has lost its allure then?

@noel @pooley1810 what are the numbers like at the BB comps these days?
@RS86 what are the numbers like at the PL comps these days?

I'd be interested in whether competing was losing its popularity. I'll try to gauge numbers but from what I recall, the competition numbers are increasing, certainly in BB with physique etc.

@GhostOf2Can you are exempt from this thread anyhow as you have stated that you are going to smash a DL comp and maybe even a WR soon. Look forward to it :thumb::thumb:

Fitness is growing exponentially. Everyone goes to the gym

When you look at the number of people who train and the percentage of people who compete I’d wager interest in competing is actually going down substantially

I said if one came up very local to me I may do it, in the opens obviously. I certainly won’t be travelling to lift in someone’s gym for a plastic trophy and no prize money. What’s the point?

The committee has seen the number of British lifters wanting to lift in the GPC-GB increase year on year, more and more or our lifters are wanting to represent Team GB in GPC International competitions.

The GPC-GB is becoming one of the fastest growing federations in the UK, backed by a vibrant and growing World federation (GPC) who has 29 affiliated countries plus individual lifters from 5 other countries. This is echoed in the UK with our membership growing to 400 members, of whom 100 were women.

Could be PR of course.

I think unless you're at the top of the game and can have some rivalry with your competitors, it kind of loses appeal.
It's been fun to watch luke tolman and aamar something as they're going head to head to break the British bench record.
BBing is a difficult one. I havr always admired the guys that do it, but I also see the strain it can put on some people's relationships and health.

400 members out of the millions and millions who train and lift and take gear these days?

Thats not many at all is it. You’ve proved my previous post to be correct

99% of people ain’t arsed are they

And I don’t blame them. I’ve been to grass roots bodybuilding shows in the past and low level PL’ing meets like you did where barely anyone one turned up when friends have competed and its boring as fuck when you can just go online and see people lifting massive weights (400kg deadlifts, 300kg bench’s etc etc) or watch streams of proper bodybuilding at pro shows

Doesn’t hold the same appeal watching some old fart hitching 290kg deadlifts when u can watch Larry wheels does it

Exactly

Top level stuff is so easily accessible these days. Low level shite in a sports hall doesn’t hold up anymore to most people

It’s the world we live in. Everything at your finger tips

Another factor with BBing for example is cost.

Let's say 16 week prep:

Coach 150pm
Drugs 150pm maybe more
Posing stuff - 50
Tan - 50
Membership of fed - 50
Tickets for friends/family - 50-100

Biggest cost:

Time/social sacrifice

Based on the above, the numbers are guesstimates, you could easily spend over a grand to compete in a BB show.

Some people compete for the enjoyment and experience, even some who have no chance of winning.

That is sport though isn't it? Also the reason that parks are full of footy players every Sunday morning who will never make it to the Premier League.
