How Old Were You When You Noticed A Difference In How You Responded To The Gym?

I’ll make the adjustments necessary it’s no issue

But Im deffo feeling myself slow down a bit recovery wise, hence the thread, just out of interest tbh as I know there’s quite a few older lads on here

Seems around this time is common

And I’ve fucking hammered it for years tbf, it was gonna happen sooner rather than later for me. Could just be really a wear and tear thing rather than an age thing

Either way I’ll have to adjust
You know what you gotta do and I think now you're focusing a little more on bodybuilding, that will really help as you can use a different style of training
I think you will have to throw in the odd heavy session when the time is right as that's what you enjoy

About the same, 36/37 ish. Blew my back out as you know and it’s been a saga even entertaining getting it back

You pulled 325kg a while back and at that time you were progressing nearly every week. Then you cut down a bit and focused on getting yourself fitter. If you had a programme in place I would guarantee you would be able to beat your deadlift. As HG would say, more food and gear required. Your only 37 chap and your recovery is maybe suffering because maybe you have trained lighter than usual for a while, your diet maybe hasn't been great over the holidays etc.

You maybe don't need big weights to progress but that's gay as fcuk. You have always trained heavy especially with squats and deads so fcuking crack on chap

Tbh pal this is why I started the thread

I’ve backed off and done some boxing etc over the last year and I was thinking maybe I just need to suck it up and push through this initial hard part of gaining back the strength I’ve allowed myself to lose

And I’m gonna. BUT I am gonna step away from deadlifting and squatting so often (twice a week) now I’m 37

I think I’ll just have to alternate between Deads and squats each week. Do one light and one heavy and work back up to where I should be slowly but surely

I hate to say this and I don't want to be the guy that pops up in 2 years saying `told you so` when you're knackered and it's game over but...

I'm only 44 lads but I've been through the wars and I know the pain of injuries and rehab. The Victor Meldrew picture is a hoot haha. Keep chasing PBs and big numbers if you want to. No real worries for me if you're in a wheelchair or using crutches. I was only trying to help with a bit of wisdom.

Yeah but there’s a difference between not being a silly cunt because you’ve realised your not 25 anymore and wrapping yourself in cotton wool because you feel yourself starting to slow down

If you can make adjustments to allow yourself to continue to push then that’s the whole point of doing this hobby imo

I’ve never once injured myself whilst lifting weights. And I’ve lifted some pretty big weights at times

Crack on mate. Good luck genuinely.

I think you’ve got to go by trial and error. Look at Stan Efferding still weekly squatting 550plus at 53. Then there’s nick best I think he squatted 7/800 the other week in his 50s. as the others have said why not look at pulling twice a month for a start see if your lower back is the recovery issue.
or just become a ponce like me at 47 and start using the trx

Hit a PB on Dips yesterday (65kg added x 22)

Hit T-bar row PB today (8 plates x 8)

Im getting stronger, the recovery issue is only effecting my lower back

I’m dropping deadlifts and keeping squats for sets of 8 - 20 reps from now on

Gonna push everything else weight wise as much as I can
