Here is one of my clients.
He came to me wanting to put on some good size but I managed to talk him into cutting down first so we can build from a lean base.
He's very close to what I consider ready for some high quality lean gains.
If you start lean there is no reason not to look great year round all the while gaining lots of muscle tissue.

Well it looks like a great base to build even more from.

It took a few months but there was a holiday in there plus I decided on a very slowly-slow approach so once the building begins there will be no hideous rebound of fat and water.

Well even a few months is no time at all in training life, sets him up better for future gains etc.

Will you try keep bodyfat same or allow a little movement?

Well obviously he did all the hard work I just gave the blue print of what to do :-)

Danny a few lb leaner first and then the gaining phase can/will allow for a little fat gain but overall he will stay in very similar condition to the second photo from now on.
 
he looks a bit leaner...
not much of a diff really...
was more impressed with the young guy you prepped for comp.
