So, the reason I've been totally off forums for a while is because my wife had a fairly major stroke, at age 30. Been totally absorbed in that and helping her rehab.
She is doing amazingly well, and seems set to make a full, or so near as no one would notice otherwise, recovery.
Her stroke, which hit the left side of her brain and so affected her right side and her speech, was entirely caused by hypertension. The infarct is about 20% of her entire brain. No kidney issues, no heart problems, no vascular disease or arterial plaque buildup. Testing determined the cause to be entirely down to genetics and a pretty rare combination of genetic variations that regulate blood pressure and vasodilation.
I was debating whether or not to post about this as I'm usually pretty guarded about posting about my family or personal stuff, but wanted to get it out there by way of a reminder and a warning - if you have high blood pressure, or highly variable blood pressure, or someone you care about has it, please treat it seriously and do all you can to bring it down.
I would not wish what happened to my wife on anyone.
