Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Has anyone ever had this in their wrist?

Just been diagnosed at docs and it's so annoying, can't grip, even lifting a phone can hurt a bit, pins and needles feeling in thumb and index finger.

Appears i've injured my median nerve somehow from too much wrist flex/extension. Perhaps it's time I invested in wrist supports.

What lifting gloves and wrist supports do people use? My old gloves are about 10 years old now.

Cheers

Got it from cycling lastt year mate. Fucking horrible. Couldn't even get my finger and thumb close enough to pick up my phone charger or even pick up my phone. Couldn't undo bottles or anything grip had completey gone.
I thunk it depends on cause but I just massaged fuck out of the hands til thee point of the pain being unbearable and did that ffor a few months and itss much better now. Still needs to rely on straps More now though

Not carpel but I snapped my wrist several times in various places over the years, have arthritis in it and can’t recommend a decent set of wrist wraps enough.

Mark bells gangster wraps have been my fave, supportive but not too heavy. And I’ve used a lot over the years, metal, apt etc. I wouldn’t fuck about with cheap ones. The gangsters tend to last a good couple of years.

also worth looking at your hand position when pressing, you want to grip the bar with your hand positioned like you’re going to punch something. If your wrist is bent back over you’re immediately fucked.

Oh! And don’t wear gloves. Just don’t. Ever.

Unless you’re in a gay bar in full leather then they are considered acceptable

cheers, yeah it's a real fucking nightmare, I had it a year ago and now again, stops me training for a good month. If I get it again i've been told i'll need the injection into the wrist and potential surgery. Grrr.

I had it. Did you get the nerve testing done to diagnose it? That was a strange feeling when I had that done! I had the injection which helped short term but they weren’t keen to do it again so I Had the release surgery. post recovery I would say I got extremely close to being back to 100 percent grip so no issue there. I used straps when needed to help as the strength was building back up but wouldn’t say it was that bad. And to be fair outside of the whole ‘bro’ stuff straps ain’t all that bad if you’re training for bodybuilding anyway In my opinion. Would rather be able to lift more to stimulate back growth for example than fall short cuz of my grip.
I’ve since had another incident in the same hand that means my grip and function is pretty fucked in that hand now but totally unrelated to the carpal tunnel syndrome/surgery lol

Thanks @milner575

Can I ask what made you get the injection and then decide for surgery.

How long did you have the pain before both of these options?

how long did surgery take to heal and what type of surgery did you have? Did they cut into the palm or before the wrist and smaller hole?
NHS?

Sorry to hear you’ve injured it again!

Working in such a manual job I was left with no choice really. Docs said try the injection and it did help but they said the only option left was to have the surgery after that stopped giving me any kind of relief. I don’t have much faith in them at all to be honest so couldn’t be bothered to argue with them I just got it done out the way

Pain and pins and needles/numbness just kind of gradually ramped up over time and progressively got worse but I can’t really remember how long I had it for to be honest. It was around 5 years ago I had the op now but knowing the nhs I would have had it for at least 12 months.

They cut in to the palm and opened it up with forceps and just sliced the sheath that runs over the nerve to release the compression. I remember watching them actually do it.

I seem to have this weird ability to always get injured but when it comes to soft tissues I heal really fast. My stitches were out within a week as they pretty much fell out and the nurse said they’d never seen one heal up so fast when she changed the dressing/gauze. Then it was just a case of taking it steady for a few months in the gym and gradually building back up. One thing I would say though is massaging the scar tissue is a must! I wasn’t great at bothering at first as it was a little tender but I could feel it hardening up and not feeling great so I had to really nail it to help.
