Anyone Get Itchy Skin With Whey ?

Sorry for bumping that old thread, however, I've got a similar issue with topic starter.
First of all, I am an absolute newbie, I've never used protein supplements before.
When I take protein(mixing it simply with water), after a few hours(2-3) it appears that my skin is itching, also, my ears turn slightly red and my cheeks turn red. Also, I've got a little bit of dizzy/light-headed feeling.

It doesn't look like lactose intolerance as it has different symptoms, but it looks like dairy or milk intolerance. However, I used to consume dairy on daily basis without any issues.
Also, there is sucralose sweetener which may be allergen, however, I used to drink those "Zero sugar" beverages with sucralose without an issue.

The protein I bought is a Whey protein from a pretty popular company.

Here is the list of ingredients:
Matcha Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (93%) (Milk, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin)), Matcha Green Tea Powder (4%), Flavouring, Sweetener (Sucralose)

Anyone who had this issue managed to solve this? I bought 1KG of this thing but I am not sure whether I should test plant based protein now or at least an isolate. Maybe it'd help. But I wouldn't really want to throw out a lot of protein.

drink some milk....if you don't get the same symptoms its highly unlikely that a processed whey will be worse than regular dairy!!!

if not a chance of allergen to the sweeter or flavouring/colouring of course.

usually bloating or getting the shits is the most common allergy to dairy.

try using on empty stomach on waking one scoop and see if you get the same reaction.

Just started back at gym last few weeks and this last week started using Whey powder again ( first time since last Christmas / New year time )
Started with itchy skin which I used to get and could never find cause of but used to just pop an antihistamine tab which sorted it.
Not had any issue for past months but started again and only thing really different in diet is whey back in.

quick Google and milk allergy looks to cause itching and hives etc, I dont use a lot of milk but have in tea etc and never have an issue so not sure its 'just' milk but more specific to whey...
which I know is milk powder ?

also no probs with cheese which is good as cheese is lyf.
Yes, me. I've had to give the concentrated Whey up. I mean the one small scoop is nearly 30g of protein (concentrated.) Came out in spots and very itchy. Definitely was the Whey, though I'm not allergic to milk (been for a private food allergy test.) It must be the concentration. Switch to lean muscle gainer, this is three large scoops, so the concentration is less and I'm lot better with this and no spots. One thing though with the Whey, I never ever got an upset stomach or anything but couldn't do with the spots.

What protein is in the muscle gainer?
Will it not be loaded with cheap fillers if you're needing 3 scoops to get the same protein as 1 scoop if whey?

I can't believe I used to drink those things lol, I think most of us did att onee point... Mutant mass and critical mass, thought of one now makes me sick

stayed away from whey for a while as I felt there seemed to be some connection.
Last couple of months or so I've been using it again and not had same issues, which suggest wasn't the whey.
Although have used BBW for latest whey etc and was bulk powders before ?

never really got to the bottom of it but seems OK now.

exactly. 30g of whey in a 25g scoop or 30g of whey in a 150g scoop of a mass shake is still 30g whey. I cannot see how the concentration will make a difference. brb just diluting my cyanide pill with some squash, will be absolutely fine now.

The one I have has 5 sources of protein, whey concentrate, egg albumen, soy isolate, milk protein isolate and calcium caseinate. It also has added Creatine monohydrate, vitamins and added BCAA's. Agree this bulks it out a bit and why it's 3 large scoops. That said 2 large scoops would be 36g protein to match the Whey I couldn't use. It is a good brand (USN).

Genuinely think with me, it's because it isn't as concentrated as the Whey I couldn't use and has differing sources of protein that may help.

You'd like the USN lean muscle version, tastes fantastic, I do the training just to have the shake....;):thumb:

Good you got it sorted. There isn't much worse than itching all over. It could be different varieties.

Point, but the USN Lean muscle gainer is mixed with more fluid. Get what you are saying though and I have thought about that. I can't work it out, but I didn't go into detail about the USN, it is 5 sources of protein, so it is not all Whey either. I agree confusing but I'm OK with these products with loads of other ingredients. The Whey I stopped using was ON's 100% Whey.

Sorry, I should have said there were 5 sources of protein in the lean mass gainer in my first post. This is possibly the reason why I am OK. Thought hard about it but not sure why I get on with it.

Sounds like you’re allergic to something in it. I’m not a fan of powdered protein shakes I usually make my own with Fage, oats, berries, peanut butter or pretty much anything you can weigh out and blitz up with some milk.

Sounds like you handle soya protein or the alternatives to whey just fine.

Thanks Rob.
