Any Bikers/ex Bikers On Here?

Mid life crisis is kicking in and I fancy jumping back on 2 wheels this summer but not ridden for about 14 years. I like my supersport 600 crotch rockets and litre superbikes but am I being unrealistic thinking that I could jump back on one of these after so much time driving a car? I've got a full bike licence and 12 years experience with no accidents but do I need to start on 125s again to get used to the roads with no power behind the throttle?
I'm 44/45 this year.

I was thinking of rejoining bikechatforums but I remember how insane that site was the last I was member so I'm reluctant to go back haha

No point what so ever I’m getting a 125 if you e ridden bigger bikes before… you’ll get bored within a week and you’d have the hassle of selling it and buying a bike you actually want.

When you go on holiday for a couple weeks, get back to the airport and jump in your car it’s just second nature. Motorbikes are exactly the same. Get a bike you want (engine size) and just take it easy for a while.

or go an do a couple of refresher lessons and get the feel for it again.

I’ve been on and off with bikes for years, there’s times when I hadn’t ridden in a couple years then when it gets to June i just think fuck it, get a bike for the summer and sell it before September.

got four young girls so my missus has banned motorbikes for me last year when the youngest was born… wanted a kit car but never got round to picking one up yet

I had a dt 125 back in the day, loads of fun and fast too off the mark

I had a DT and a few proper crossers too (CR, RN, Armstrong). Legendary old bikes that would apparently rip your arms off when the power band kicked in at the redline haha.

Is that you in the avatar? You're a bit of a beast now aren't you mate. Better than that last `dad bod` pic you showed us all. Gear must be good haha

I think this idea of a refresher works best for me.

I'm looking at a new spec Yam R6 or new spec Honda 6RR or if I can find the money my current dream bike is an APE RS660 so a few weeks on low powered bikes makes sense.

Sod the kids and my woman. I've given them all too much already haha

Rd 350's were the bikes to have back then and the ypvs version, flying machines...

I bet you've always fantasised about being a 1% Biker. A guy I knew at school joined one well known UK one in the 80s. He was always a bellend TBH but I thought he might have changed when I wrote on Facebook with him a few years back. In the course of the conversation I asked if he still was into that scene. His answer, you have to ask me to my face. I wrote no problem see you when I'm over. Then blocked me. Still a numpty.
Saying this as most of these biker forums have always the 1% MC discussions.

Yep, bikes were my thing for a long a time. Got all the plates and scars to prove it.
It's like riding a bike. Don't f*ck around with a 125 just go straight for a 600 you'll be fine.

Ah yes, The smell of castrol-r and the sound of a 350 2-stroke power valve with micron pipes was awesome. Proper old school race bikes. Screamers haha

Only road bikes I owned were a yam fizz and then an RG gamma 125. Both quick bikes in those days haha

Get yourself a GSXR1000. See how fast you can go straight off the bat!! Don’t worry if it’s wet you’ll be fine. No need for one piece leathers jeans, t shirt and some flip flops if you wanna be cool nowadays!

I made me laugh when the Hells Angels got the shit kicked out of em by a load of Irish travellers in London years back:rofl:

I’ve had loads of bikes mate, raced em on road and track. I just picked up a GIXXER for summer. Sorting a nice full system and suspension out for it soon. The get it mapped properly so it runs how it should without all that restricted crap on it.

Used to ride when I was young, had an NC30, baby blade then a blade.

had thoughts of getting back into in myself, was looking at cafe racer style bikes, something with a bit of cool I can cruise on that’ll have a bit ok poke when needed but I’m really not built for bikes any more. Plus the roads seem to be an absolute state compared to 15 years ago, as does the state of peoples driving.
