Just started thinking about what happened to some of the WSM guys.

I know RS86 will probably come in and chide me for not following everything but here goes anyway.

    What happened to these lads?

    Derek Poundstone - injuries.
    Kevin Nee - injuries.
    Travis Ortmayer - injuries.
    Ervin Katona
    Mikhail Koklyaev
    Johannes Arsjo
    Dave Ostlund
    Phil Pfister
    Martin Wildauer
Vince Urbank - rumours of mad behaviour and prison.
    Mike Burke

Poundstone still trains heavy as fuck. He started posting for a while on insta but then stopped. Training in his garage pulling 6-700 lb deads.
Hmm come to think of it that could have been 2can now?

Virtually all these guys are around your age now tbh. If you think they were peaking as Brian Shaw was coming up in his 20s and he's pretty much at the tailend of his career now

On the subject of Travis Ortmayer and hia story though I strongly recommend watching this. Incredible story and he is on the road to a comeback, competed at last years SCL.

Yeah, I knew some were older but I think Wildauer and Urbank are younger? Arsjo is mid 30s too.

    Must be injuries.

Who remembers Jimmy Marku and what happened to him

Wildauer is a strange one. Should have been ome of the next big things but never happened for whatever reason. Last I heard of him he was competing in SCL but think he has possibly retired.

Urbank has never competed at world level in strongman. He was more successful in PLing.

Arsjo has had tons of injuries. He still competes, but had been at WSM since 2008 so ultimately burned out I think.

Marku got jailed for a long time not so long ago for his part in some illegals entering the UK on a boat from Albania, where he was from originally

Derek Poundstone - injuries. Made an attempt at a comeback a couple of years back and had another nasty injury.
Kevin Nee - injuries and too much gear too young, burned out apparently
Travis Ortmayer - Has had several bad injuries, but became addicted to drugs and lost everything including his family (see vid). Coming back stronger than ever
Ervin Katona - Started late at WSM. Retired
Mikhail Koklyaev - Fought Alexander Emelianenko recently in a boxing match. Still a machine albeit past his prime.
    Johannes Arsjo - see previous
Dave Ostlund - Retired. Expected a comeback past couple years but never happened and he's approaching 40.
Phil Pfister - Nearly 50. Style/weight of comps these days wouldn't have suited him.
    Martin Wildauer - see previous
Vince Urbank - Last PL meet was in 2013. No idea where he went
Mike Burke - Mid to late 40s, was a late starter. Called it a day after his last Arnolds IIRC

I either follow most of them on social media or have googled at some point to find out (in Marku's case as I was watching some old Britain Strongest Man comps few months back and new he'd be released after his car boot full of weed carry on)
