    PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT

In a week when a British trans-Atlantic rowing team and a British mountaineering expedition announced they will be taking the groundbreaking powdered food Huel on their respective adventures, the UK manufacturer of the product said the most exciting growth is within the consumer market, where thousands of people are beginning to use Huel as an alternative to actual food products.

Huel, a nutritionally complete powdered food that contains all the protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals the body needs, has been a huge hit on the UK market since launching in June of last year. Sales of the product have been growing at over 50% month on month, with more than 8,000 customers now part of the enthusiastic www.huel.com movement.

Founder of Huel Julian Hearn puts the success down to a ‘paradigm shift' in consumer mentality. "The way we eat, the kind of food we buy, where we get it and how it's prepared, is coming under scrutiny from people who realise that food isn't just a way to live, it's a lifestyle choice," Hearn said.

"Somewhere in between health concerns and environmental concerns is the need for an accepted and sought-for lifestyle that relates to what we consume. Not only does the powdered food alternative free up the time and money traditionally spent on food for so many people here in the UK, it does so without compromising quality or nutritional value."

The vegan-friendly Huel contains a carefully chosen blend of Oats, Pea Protein, Rice Protein, Flaxseed, MCTs from Coconut, Sunflower Lecithin, a Vitamin and Mineral Blend, Vanilla Flavour and a Sweetener. The flavour has been compared to vanilla porridge, purposely designed not to be too flavoursome to minimise the risk of users overeating, although there is now a range of four powdered flavours - Strawberry, Mocha, Toffee, Rhubarb and Custard.

The simplicity of the powder also means it takes less than two minutes to mix an entire day's worth of nutrition, a factor that is particularly appealing to the British trans-Atlantic rowing team and the British mountaineering expedition who will be taking Huel to provide vital nutrition and energy to help them get through their respective gruelling challenges.

Susannah Cass, part of the four man Row2Rio team (www.row2rio2016.co.uk), who will spend around 2 months rowing across the Atlantic from southern Portugal to northern Brazil this summer in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "We'll be burning at least 6000 calories a day and putting our bodies through one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet - and much of the time it may be too rough to light the camping stove to heat rehydrated food. Having Huel to fuel our journey is an immense benefit to our expedition - quick and simple to prepare, easy to consume in any conditions, providing all the vitamins, minerals and micro nutrients we need to keep our bodies in the best condition to undertake this challenge."

The British Services Dhaulagiri Medical Research Expedition 2016 (www.dhaulagiri2016.com), meanwhile, will use Huel to help fuel an attempt to climb a mountain called Dhaulagiri, which, at 8167m is the world's 7th highest mountain, in a lightweight style, without supplementary oxygen. The expedition will take place in March and June in Nepal.
Expedition Medical Officer Dr Josh Bakker-Dyos said: "We are delighted to be supported by Huel. The high altitude environment presents a number of significant physiological challenges including an increase in energy requirement. Taking on sufficient calories at high altitude is logistically difficult and Huel, as a nutritionally complete powdered food, represents an ideal solution to help augment carbohydrate, fat and protein intake."

"We are privileged to be supplying these two teams," Hearn said. "We are also supplying a University College London student who is part of a group of students attempting base camp Mount Everest to raise money for AIDS Orphan."

"At every stage of the development process, our priority has been to keep the product as clean, true to life and as wholesome as possible. This is a real revelation for busy people wanting to keep their weight and diet in check or simply want a fuss-free way to fuel their bodies."

    EDITOR'S NOTES
    About Huel
Huel (www.huel.com) is a nutritionally complete powdered food that contains all the protein, carbohydrates, fats, and the essential 26 vitamins and minerals the body needs. It's made from real food (oats, pea, rice, flaxseed, sunflower, coconut), which have been turned into a powder for convenience and to dramatically increase the shelf life to 1 years (which should reduce the food waste to zero, currently in the UK we throw away 33% of all food).

Huel 100% vegan (better for the environment and animals), super convenient, high in protein (150g per 2000 calories) and fibre (140% of RDA), low GI, contains less than a teaspoon of sugar per 2000 calories, contains no allergens (apart from non gluten-free oats), requires minimal packaging.
