Style of Dieting for Gaining Size: What Works for You?

just asking generally out of interest. I admire Bobby's physique.

Do you train at Panthers gym then? Or Activ8?

activ8 now. panthers is that bit to far for me down the m4. still get in there as and when i can. where you at?

i know there are exceptions to every rule and these comments were made in a jokey way which obviously is hard to put across in typed format.

I work in Slough. Trained at Forge Gym for a month last year. Equipment was excellent but didnt really like the atmosphere and attitude of a lof of members down there.

Back to training where i live in twickenham now. Its a Nuffield Health, Fitness and Wellbeing gym. Used to be a Cannons Health Club bit its not health clubby at all. Quite a few bb'ers and harlequins rugby players train there so they have everything i need. DBs up to 60kg, incline, flat, decline bench. Smith machine. Power rack. pullup and dipping bars and belts. 45 degree leg press. Leg extension and leg curl machines and a hack squat. Does the job for me, get on with everyone who trains and works there and is a 60 second drive from my house (yes i dont walk coz im a lazy fvck lol).

How is Activ8? Seems decent from watching some of bobby's vids on youtube...

Activ8 is top notch. the guys there have done a blinding job with that place. are you still working in slough?

Quite jelous you train with Bobby, love his physique, really asthetic!

i dont train full time with him, he trains mornings and i dont like getting up to often so its as and when. he looks quite big atm

Don't go by the scales go by the mirror.
Look if you don't have at least an outline of your muscles such as abbs and quads when tensing them its a simple fact that you are fat fvck not a bodybuilder.
You cant get huge if you stay super lean year round but once you go over 15% your hormone profile will be skewed towards fat gain not muscle gain.

Also getting RIPPED is all well and good but there is a line to draw.
I used to know a natural guy who looked great year round i mean really lean he would train twice per day every day and was just in great shape.
He dieted for a show lost about 5 kg all of which seemed to be muscle and at the end you could see his ribs on rear poses.
Total fail.

This is something i've been thinking about recently. By getting to 6-7% before bulking it will ultimatly improve your muscle gain and speed at which you gain as more of the nutriets you put into your body will be shuttled to your muscles as there is minimal fat stores for it to go too.

Is this correct or am i missing the mark?

Missing the mark a bit but it does sem to help to be lean and when lean to stay lean. better insulin response must be oneof the main easons i think. estrogn related effects are more prominent so i read

you will have fat cells there that can be filled up just he same....fat cells are like wee water baloons. they just inflate or deflate and if necessary the body wil mke more

Interesting subject.

Does anyone on here take the approach of over-eating and controlling the excess calorie intake with cardio?

I'm still very much unqualified to pass on advice as i'm in the learning zone.

i did the dirty bulk... i do not rate this what so ever and it led to 75lbs off for a contest diet....not fun.

i have done 3x lean bulks now and these i do rate, slow weight increases and body recomps at the same time.
I am now 240lbs with a fair amount of conditioning that will see me well into a contest prep....however, offseason i am looking to go for a larger style bulk (not dirty bulk, clean carb sources) as i need a good 5kg lean mass on minimum.

I am carb sensitive, i look at a pack of pasta and i add some fat i swear.
I still need to find a balance between making strong moves forward and holding off excessive fat gain, some is needed but i dont see the point in getting fat.

right now its a lean bulk, after the brits its a good 14-15 months of pure offseason

i cant comment on which is best as ive never competed (and never will) but do you think that the dirty bulk you did held you back? or do you think if you never did this dirty bulk and didnt get as big as you did you wouldnt have as much muscle mass as you do now?

I must have missed this (I don't get all my notifications it would seem).

Yes the leaner you can stay the better.
Fat is a body organ and really messes things up.
A man should be lean mean and energetic.
You can get very big staying very lean but I suppose some will argue its best to bulk up at some stage.
Well sure if your goal is to become a massive man on stage but if your goal is to get big strong and look good then bulking up the body fat is never needed.

Stay lean and gain strength (using an appropriate muscle gaining system I am not talking about 1-3 reps). Once the gains stop then add in natural and unnatural things that keep progress going. One day you will max out but that is a day you should cherish and smile as you realize what you have done. Keeping on pushing against your bodies wishes will result in more gains but health problems will also follow.

Yep. Staying lean as hell this year.. when I actually get there LOL..

But yeah just going to be eating enough carbs decent amount of fats not much over 2600 kcals prob with big feed days and some utterly brutal training.

And without even realizing it (even though I know you do Max as you're a smart fellow) by keeping calories so low you give your body a great lease of life. Life extensionists do so via calorie restriction.
