In the interview following the final event, Bjornsson confirmed that he is retiring from the sport.

“Honestly, I’m grateful, I’m thankful, I’m happy with my decision. This has been a great career. It’s time to let this go and move on and do something else. I want to be healthy for my family, for my daughter, for my future son, and for my wife. This sport is very extreme. It takes a lot out of the body, and I want to make sure that I’m there for my family for a long time.”

wonder what health marker has gotten him a bit freaked out? Think it's fair to say Eddie Hall had BP through the roof to the point he looked like he was going to have an aneurism when he did the 500kg deadlift but Thor always looks far healthier than Eddie ever did.

It's that or he's mugged off by the governing body and that shady video they published making him out to be an utter asshole after he lost the WSM by a point.

Thor was a skinny basketball type physique though so it must have taken a lot of gear and food to balloon him up, putting pressure on his health I would have thought. He must have pushed hard for the 501 DL too. I reckon he has a decent amount of dough too (with GOT etc).

id that the vid where he was an utter asshole ? :)

in all fairness though fair play to him, made his mark and will be able to move into lots of other things with a more healthy bias.

    the big mardy cunt... ;)

Correct and Eddie had to bin it early too.

Big Z and Brian Shaw were naturally massive and strong IIRC.

I've always wondered about Brian Shaw and what he is actually taking if anything. as a teenager he was already weighing more than most of the current WSM competitors. when he was first starting out he was a fucking monster of mass eating 12k/day. His strength has taken a relative "dive" recently and he's lost a decent amount of weight from when he got his titles. Makes me wonder if the strength has dropped purely cos he's not holding the same LBM as he was and is actually natty or, at least, not on all that much.

there's certain competitors who are forever pissing blood out of their noses and collapsing after events that you know are just pilling in the drol and food to force that size and strength.

They released that video and made him look an arsehole after he behaved like one, and publicly accused them of cheating

Fuck Thor he’s a giant baby and a poor sport

Lol at Shaw being natty

He’s won the WSM 4 times, hes said on record he wants 6, and he’s one of the most competitive athletes going, you think he’s happy to knowingly allow his competitors to juice and have that over him and just accept it as he’s against steroids?

Wake up mate. He’s taking just as much as everybody else

however naturally gifted you may be if you compete at a high level ( in this instance the pinnacle ) and your competitors, after your titles, earnings, status etc are taking anything to enhance their ability to take this from you.
    You're gonner say,
'nah, not for me bro, natty will do for me'

    dafuq ???

    unless a cyclist obvs....

Some are clearly on a lot more than others is what I was musing. Again, Eddie Hall as an example. He hasn't got a clue how to train. Its the most bro sciencey shit I've ever seen. There's no structure to what he's doing other than a "top set" for most of what he was doing. You then compare to what thors coach has him doing where he comfortably peaks to an easy 501. He's not going between beetroot red, pissing blood hypertensive as soon as he picks up a weight to sheet pale as soon as its put down. Eddie also seems to have flicked the gear overload switch between 2015 and 2017 where his weight flies up and he goes from "fairly unremarkable" to being WSM and knocking on the log record had he not passed out, taking the axel and deadlift records.

I've never seen mateusz on deaths door, Brian gets gassed but he's never about to die so youd assume thier usage is a lot more controlled.
