I've heard a few complaints about the 2.0t units but can't recall any specifically other than cam chain tensioners failing?

Yep.

Timings fine. When it's behaving itself it runs like a dream. If it was chain, tensioner or cam bridge it would be running like a dog constantly

Put the Maf in. 10 miles and it went again. Next step is lambda sensor, going to pull it out and have a look at it
