After holding a CBT twice and never finishing the licence, I've just done CBT for third time, booked theory and I'm determined to finish the test.

As I've had a tiny bit of bike experience and a lot of car experience, the instructors said I'll be good to go with 3 days of training.

I'm wondering if I should get a little 125 in the meantime to practice on, or just jump straight into the lessons on a big bike and see how I get on?

Also, what do you recommend for a first "big" bike? It seems to be very subjective. Bear in mind I'm 6'1 and 16 stone, if that has a bearing on it.

I have a mate who races (and is good) who says GSXRers are best for road bikes, as R6 and the like are built for the track.

I'm 90% sure my first bike will be a 600 as I feel I'm responsible enough to control my urge to go mad on it and consider myself to have well above average road awareness. I'm sure some would suggest starting with a smaller bike so I'll listen to all cases!

if you have the confidence to go straight in there's not much point of getting bad habits on a 125 as you're going to test on a bigger bike.

Can't advise on bikes as I only ride cruisers and always have which I'm guessing aren't your cup of tea.

Cool, I'll crack on when I've got the theory out the way again next month.

Not sure what I want from a bike really, but something that gives me a thrill to ride again and the option to commute into London via the M4 as and when desired!

To be honest I stopped riding now after I moved back in to West London 3 years ago. It's just not fun being on a bike in this area. When I was up in Beds and Cambs it was actually a pleasure everyday but here it feels more like a death wish to be honest. Far to many ass holes in a big rush.

Last bike I had is below. Being 6ft and always between 16-19st it was always more comfortable being on a cruiser. Plus the victory was just a 1700cc beast and fun to ride.

Jeeez that's nice, and a beast!

You've lived in similar areas to me. I work in West London and have lived in Beds and frequented Cambs. Although I could get the train to work, it's so much hassle versus jumping in my van and being in my own space for an hour. A bike would hopefully make it more entertaining and a little quicker filtering on the A40 and in town.

I live in Hillingdon so am very used to the fun of the A40 especially as I had a warehouse in Greenford to travel to. You used to be able to leave at 0730 and get there in 10 minutes with no traffic 10 years ago. Now anything after 0600-0630 can leave you in traffic and take over 30 minutes some days.
There's just too many people on the road now and worse too many ass holes who don't use there mirrors or look enough to make bike riding safe or fun anymore round here.

Im in the same boat. DAS is a pisstake and so expensive for what you get preferred the old licencing rules where you can pass on a 125 then restrict for two years then full licence.

For big bike i assume you like supersports. Gsxr600 and cbr600 have power throughout the revs so.make better road bikes. R6 is all top.end power so need to rev the shit out of it everywhere so.im told. Ive only rode a gsxr600 and was very nice compared to my.cbr125
