    27th January

Routine all to pot again due to work and vet visits.

    Axle Deadlift

First 4 sets were paused below knee on the up and down just to make sure hamstrings were firing.
    85kg x 5
    85kg x 5
    115kg x 5
    125kg x 3

Hamstrings were already shaky at this point, quite good.

    155kg x 3
    165kg x 3
    175kg x 3

Not sure but think thats the most I've pulled with the axle bar. I don't understand RPE, but I think it may have been about an 8, maybe 8.5 if there is such a thing.

    Front Squat
    40kg x 5
    60kg x 5
    80kg x 5
    90kg x 5
    100kg x 5

    Axle Continental Clean and press
    35kg x 3
    45kg x 3

just feeling this out. Didn't like it, I'm more comfortable with power cleans, easier on the shoulders. Tried using belt cleans, don't like the pinching.

Axle power clean and press (clean each rep, push jerk)
    45kg x 3
    55kg x 3
    65kg x 3
    75kg x 1

    Farmers Hold (per hand)
    60kg x 15s
    80kg x 15s
    100kg x 15s
    120kg x 15s

Last set was heavy as hell getting off the floor, had never lifted 240kg from floor in any format. Hands/forearms didn't feel too bad considering.

    Hanging knee raise
    x 20
    x 20
    x 15

    Cable tricep extension
    15kg x 15
    20kg x 13

    One arm band tricep
    Red x 25

Red band pull aparts x 50

That looks like a pretty brutal session on paper

It didn't feel too bad tbh mate. I am trying to do a bit more work in sessions than I've done in the past. Whether that is a help or a hindrance we'll see.

Feel like overhead numbers should be starting to pick up now. DB is on the right track but axle/barbell/log I'm just not making any ground on. Maybe part of it is still apprehension of having heavy things above my head. Maybe part of it is I've had historically bad elbows/shoulders and I'm scared to aggravate them.

    Log
    45kg x 5
    45kg x 5
    55kg x 5

    65kg x 4
    65kg x 5

    75kg x 5
    85kg x 1

    These felt crap as usual.

    Yoke Zercher Carry
    70kg x 18m
    80kg x 18m
    90kg x 18m
    100kg x 18m
    110kg x 18m

Not sure how close these mimic sandbag carries but they're pretty fun, kind of tough too.

    Yoke Walk
    120kg x 18m
    170kg x 18m
    170kg x 36m
    170kg x 36m

Stuck at 170kg purely because i couldnt be bothered lugging more plates from the garage, plus weather was threatening to bucket down so the less i had to run back inside with the better.

    Monster DB
    35kg x 5 (Left)
    35kg x 5 (Right)

My right side definitely doesn't like these, especially my hand. Same as last week, thumb goes funny and I can't move it or grip anything.

    40kg x 5 (Left)
    45kg x 3 (Left)
    50kg x 1 (Left)

    60kg x 5
    67.5kg x 5

    65kg x 5
    75kg x 5
    85kg x 10

    Close Grip Ex Press
    60kg x 10
    65kg x 10

    DB Fly
    12.5kg x 15

No raises as my shoulders were aching, finished up with some delt work with landmine.

Is it your right side you have the sore shoulder?

It is mate. I've done both my rotator cuffs at different points over the years but it's only the right that gives me real bother. Seems to flare up for a bit then subside, then repeat. Haven't found any rhyme or reason to it.

Slept on neck funny, bit sore today.
Opting for a bastardised 531 approach for a bit, started last session. See how it goes over next 3 weeks. Started lighter and avoided amraps until I gauge how doing two lifts goes.

    Axle Deadlift
    75kg x 5
    95kg x 5

    107.5kg x 5
    125kg x 5
    142.5kg x 5

Not all that heavy, maybe too much of a step back.

    Front Squats
    40kg x 5
    50kg x 5
    60kg x 5

    70kg x 5
    80kg x 5
    90kg x 5

Front squats hurt my knees less than back squats so they're staying in.

    Face Pulls
    10kg x 25
    20kg x 20

    Rear Delt Fly
    7.5kg x 15
    7.5kg x 12

    Reverse Barbell Curls
    20kg x 20
    20kg x 15
    20kg x 12

Forearms felt these. Quite like them.

    Cable Rows
    20kg x 15
    40kg x 12
    40kg x 12
    50kg x 10

no events today as it was hammering down with rain, so just had a bit of a mess around session, trying new exercises as was shorter on time.

    incline log press
    45kg x 15
    55kg x 12
    65kg x 10
    75kg x 6

This was quite good, due to width of the log it was almost like a board press as it hit my chest before my elbows had broke 90 degrees. very tricep heavy.

    axle z press
    35kg x 5
    35kg x 5
    35kg x 5
    35kg x 5
    35kg x 5

Took a while to get setup for this right. What a disgusting exercise. Lats and core felt this more than anything. Not sure if this is exposing lats and core as a weak point in overhead pressing. Tried going for more reps on last set but toppled over backwards, while sitting on floor.

    axle floor press
    35kg x 15
    45kg x 8
    55kg x 8
    65kg x 8

Very weird. Also very tricep heavy. Hard going on the wrists with the 50mm axle.

barbell landmine rows (not including bar weight)
    20kg x 15
    30kg x 12
    40kg x 10

using the strap handle from my cable pulley and looping this under the bar. Good for getting a decent squeeze but the thin canvas handles arent easy to grip. with a few adjustments this could be promising.

    Banded hamstring curl
    red band x 20
    blue band x 10
    blue band x 12

Resistance band hooked round power rack, both feet in band, lying on bench. Actually not too shabby, never replace a proper leg curl mind.

    OHP
    20kg x 8
    30kg x 6
    42.5kg x 4

    55kg x 3
    65kg x 3
    72.5kg x 5 (last 2 had leg drive)

    Ex Bench
    50kg x 10
    60kg x 5

    70kg x 3
    80kg x 3
    90kg x 6

    Close Grip Ex Press
    60kg x 15
    60kg x 8

    No strength there today.

    Monster DB (Left)
    35kg x 2
    35kg x 2
    35kg x 2
    35kg x 2
    35kg x 2
    35kg x 6

Done this purely to drill the movement pattern, plus try out a new cue for feet that I had read and wanted to try. Gave it a go with my right arm, got 2 reps then had to bail. Aside from shoulder, elbow and wrist hurting, I just had no power in my right.

    DB Fly
    10kg x 20
    12.5kg x 25

    Need heavier dumbbells again.

    Barbell Curl
    20kg x 15
    20kg x 20

Viking Landmine Press (neutral grip, not including bar weight)
    +10kg x 20
    +15kg x 20
    +20kg x 20

Nice finisher for front delts, much prefer them to front raises.

No clue what makes a press a Z Press? Solid couple of sessions but that right side still not giving you a break?

You know I'd never really thought about why it's called that, but seems it was made popular by Zydrunas Savickas. The more you know lol.

Nah sadly not mate. Pain is normal but lack of power is a new one on me. Sometimes think about having it properly looked at but I'm just doing this for fun so it's not too big of a deal, just work around it.

Do you have/do anything that you find helps with yours?

TBH not much I do seems to help in any notable way, but then I've also had this for 5 years now so I guess whatever I try will take a while to undo a long term problem. It does generally cause me less discomfort recently in day to day life and is marginally more mobile I feel but still pretty restricted and can flare up

It's weird you saying that, there's a lot of similarities, especially in the flare ups. Take the good with the bad eh. Do you know where the problem started or what caused it?

Nah, frozen shoulders can just happen. I do know that as you age rotators tend to degrade and get tear build ups so it could be a result of that I guess but no actual trigger or point of incident where I can 'since that happened'.

I had a bicep rupture on that arm 10 years ago, but there was 5 years between that happening and the problems I have now.
