Tried running today (roadwork)

Went for a 3.5 miler yesterday, did 40 mins worth the day before.

Decent running shoes are a must. First time I'd ran in a while....

Cardio equipment doesn't come close to the fitness gained from straight up road running, the body will adapt to whatever you throw at it fitness wise. I'd get a gait analysis and the appropriate shoes for your gait and stick at it mate. Just take it easy and work up slowly.

Realistically you should go to a specialist running shop and get your feet checked to see what position your feet stand... personally I'm flat footed (fallen arch) so I need a thick foamed trainer with extra arch support. Having said that though, for the amount of cardio/running us lot are likely to do probably wouldn't matter. It's still good to have the correct trainers, I have 2 pairs butI can't run in my old ones now because my feet and shins are agony afterwards.

Yeh just I've started working in a gym and take quite a few classes so need a half decent pair.. still just lift in plimmys like

Road running after a recent rupture is asking for trouble.
Its been over a year but it still doesnt feel natural so I have stopped. Even on treadmill which I was shocked over.

I know its to do with my bodyweight transmitting the shock and reverb back.

I am too heavy.

I am going to have to re-think this again as even the treadmill is not comfortable.

Maybe strapping it up?

I bought some cheap mizuno ones for twenty quid this time around. They're doing the job fine.

Worth having a gait analysis done though if you haven't had it done before. They'll usually do it free at a decent sports shop, decathlon do them if there's one local.

Gives you an idea of what's going to work for you

What time you running 5k in mate?

Yeah I know what your saying pip, but really speaking you need to make good out of a bad situation really... I don't use exercise bikes personally, but do a fair bit of cycling... not for cardio (I run for this) but just enjoy cycling... If you really hammer the pedals on the road, flat out so to speak... With the road inclines etc it's pretty brutal cardio wise but enjoyable at the same time... guess It depends where you live to mind, I'm just outside Cardiff, but have an abundance of quietish roads at my disposal

Got my head into watching muay Thai but now back in the UK folloowing the UK gippo chav tradition, I rang the local boxing club but they sauid fitness or otherwise I was too old at 40, they did not care at muay Thai.

TBH It would never work getting my size back and lack of mobility with the recovery ability I have right now.....but mental strength is back.
