Mass gainers

Slight of hand

The bed you sleep in....
alright chaps

I'm planning my winter bulk now, from September onwards i'm going to try and beef up a bit whilst attempting to keep some shape.

I know there is no substitute to food but time and general life constraints make it difficult to keep cooking and i like the flexibility of shakes.

I don't want a "mutantmasslardarsechunkawunka3000000" type of gainer either.

What, if any, do you lads use when bulking? and why?

Reps please don't comment.

cheers.

Make myself

Oats

Whey

Coconut powder or dedicated

Peanut butter

Whole milk

Blend & drink

Quantities to suit your cals

Similar to Spearman:

Pea protein

banana

PB

milled linseed

soy milk

maybe some oats too depending on how filling I want it.

Cost has been an issue recently for me so ebayed matrix gainer and had 4kg of that (30 quid iirc)

Use pwo or for breakfast

Chuck in a scoop of whey to add to the protein content.

Normally bulk on red meat oats and milk tho

Homemade for me too.

If taking to work they're either protein + oats + some flax and fruit on the side, or protein with plenty of PB. Soy milk in both for me if possible.

Making at home, protein, egg whites, soy milk, banana, oats and some coffee.

I have bodytronics mass attack juganort for breakfast

Tbh i like its 650 cals (so not silly high) 57g protein, 69g carbohyrates, thats per 150g scoop

If i want to up cals i add 3 tablespoons of olive oils up its to 1000cals

Plus i like the facts they use whole oats, durum wheat, barley malt etc as main carbs instead of just filling it with dextrose n cheap carbs.

Choc whey

Liquid egg whites

Milk

Oats

Peanut butter

Blitzed with ice

Done

Boditronics is a superb choice if not wanting homemade - toffee for the win on flaours.

Been looking at the tpw one that looks good also.

Plenty of options out there, but I would definitely recommend making your own rather than buying a ready made product.

Basically, you just want a good protein powder and then depending on the type of diet you're following, add whatever ratio of carbs & fats you prefer.

For carb sources, I like ground oats and waxy maize starch.  I like WMS in particular because it's very easy to digest and doesn't bloat you.  I find that if I add too many high fiber carb sources (oats, barley, brown rice flour...etc.) it just makes me uncomfortable since they're very filling and add a lot of bulk to the shake.  So a mixture of oats and WMS is perfect for getting around that IME.

For fats - I like coconut oil, macadamia nut oil or olive oil as they're easy to add to shakes and very calorie dense.  Peanut butter is also good, but you need to add more of it to get the same calorie density as the oils which probably works out to be more expensive in the long run.  Coconut milk is also very nice.

All of those are going to give you a lot more bang for you buck than buying a pre-made product + you can easily adjust the ratios to suit your needs (more carbs PWO...etc.).

At the moment whey and powdered oats, because I'm adapting the carb level according to my fat loss.

But I'm a big fan of Boditronics Mass Attack. Each serving has about 40g protein and 60g carbs. Not shitty sugary carbs either. Only tried toffee and it was nice.
