I've been reading about magnesium citrate and chromium polynicotinate ; the former is essential for energy production and metabolic support and the latter is essential for thyroid support and blood sugar regulation.

Anyone here use them?

Magnesium cirtate am taking at the moment - always take a decent magnesium supp as exercise depletes magnesium levels very rapidly, and supping back up definitely (I think) helps maintain stable energy levels, particularly first thing in the morning.

Magnesium is also an absolutely vital supplement for anyone who trains and also smokes, as smoking depletes levels even faster, and the mg also contributes to a protective effect on the lungs.

Not tried the chormium polynicotinate.

Magnesium has also been shown to reduce blood pressure when subjects took 200mg x3 per day.
Its a supplement that is worth taking.

Thanks chaps :)

Any views on Chromium?

Chromium plays an important role in insulin action, but am not sure if there's any strong evidence to suggest that supp'ing with high doses does anything extra... although I guess the higher the carb content of your diet the more it might be benficial. Am not sure though off the top of my head - not looked at the studies.

One thing I do remember though is that chromium picolinate (minerals bound to picolinate are fantastic, very highly bioavailable btw) got slagged off a few years ago and labelled as 'dangerous' due to potential risk of damage to dna. the problem with all the fuss was that it was just one study on flies or wasps that showed this happening, and human trials did not show the same problem.

Personally I'd rank magnesium as more important, but also would happily give a chromium supp a go, especially on a high carb diet.

I will go with the Magnesium as what you guys are saying backs up my reading. Think I will pause on the Chromium as I would like to hear some real world experiences first I think.

i have used chromium picolonate and even better vanadyl sulphate for insulin responce control.

That's a good reason to take it - I like supps that curb rises in cortisol. Zinc picolinate or zinc gluconate are other good mineral supps that do this well.

what about Vit C ?

what about Vit C ?

yep, that works too - gotta be reasonably high doses though, minimum 2-3g per day and ideally more if i remember right.

i have used chromium picolinate and didnt notice much altho i suppose there isnt much to notice.

Really i meant to test my sugars after eating a meal with it compared to not but never got round to doing it. may do this later in the week or next just out if interest as i want to test the r ala i am using anyway

I just use ZMA but saying that the now adam multi I use has a decent amount of mag and zinc in as well.
