My opinion on excess calories.

I love excess calories. The more the better

Most people who eat 200 cals over maintenance because they want to 'lean bulk' don't gain shit. Waste of time
Quiet a lot of these people have no idea how to train effectively for their body or use good gear either.

Tends to be the younger new lot that support Jeff said and that group of trainers.

My best growth came about a year after I started training. 500mg test and I just ate everything in the fridge. I don't know about specific protein amounts and what not. I just ate everything.

Sure I gained a decent amount of fat as well but I didn't care then, I just wanted to get big. And in comparison to what I'd been sat at for a while, I did get big and still looked a very good size (again in comparison to myself) once I'd got lean.

Same here. I gained 4 stone in a year when I was 25 and apart from a 4 week run on dbol that was natty. Sure I gained some fat but I still had abs. And that was on a 'see food' diet at least 1500 cals over maintenance

Imagine how long it would take to do that eating 200 cals over maintenance? I don't think it could be done

Edit: I should probably say about 2 stone of this was BW/muscle I'd lost, but I still stick by my point that it couldn't be done on a tiny excess of calories

i always over egged my offseasons (yes @Greyphantom i can hear you already lol).... but... i made great improvements year on year and always pulled it in for a show condition wise.
Look at jordan, he certainly doesnt stay around 200 cals over maintenance on a bulk and look how much that freak grew in a short space.

drip feed = slow results.
sure its lean gains but when you compete you realistically get 4-5 months tops between contest preps of true offseason.
One year it was prep feb-apr, brits were in october so prep july-oct... i then wanted to do the portsmouth show again so that gave me nov-feb for a bulk.
fuck reverse dieting
screw 200 cals over maintenance

i've always been a fan of the dirty bulk and it paid off.
2009 - 90kg on stage
2010 - taken out due to 2 hernia ops
2011 - 93kg on stage
2012 - 97.5kg on stage

sure i had longer preps and i dont care for those who try and coast into a show without shedding a bead of sweat, prep is prep, you lose what you have to.

I've never loved one of your posts till now. Have a hug haha

I get annoyed as I dnt see how this subject is even up for debate lol

Ahhhh been a while since one of these threads, and all the usual types are in - especially those eager to wank off some mythical internet IQ, all the while using the wrong terminology missing the point and impressing only the completely clueless - superb

And meanwhile, amongst the guys that are getting bigger than most of yawl, they are just keeping it simple and eating lots of good food - maybe taking a bit of gear - and not giving a fuck about IQ masturbation :thumb:

With these being your stage weights, roughly what were the off season weight you achieved?

Well I am up 20lb in the first week (blood pressure remains around 114/68).
Bloated and gained some fat.....strength up at least 20%.
See here is my issue with only going 200 calories over .... water retention!
The more water retention you can hold without getting high BP the better!
It increases strength and cushions joints.
The heavier you can lift the bigger you will get! (I am not talking 1RM but getting stronger in the 8-20 rep range and size will go up)

Why are many power lifters way smaller than bodybuilders who lift far less?

Fact is you gain what your genetics will allow
Muscles dont know weight, they only know intensity.
