Why bodybuilding?

Fair enough willis!

Well even arnold/ alesxy would have been slim/fat at some age or another

I just thought to myself

You ask us "why bodybuilding", yet the majority of people who have replied to this thread have never stood on stage and competed as an actual bodybuilder. I for one haven't.

In my opinion the persons who have not stepped on stage do not really have a valid opinion, they are not actual bodybuilders so they cannot give an informed answer.

Are you attempting to sh1t stir? lol

Even though i have competed i thought this thread was simply aimed at people who actively build their bodies.
We're not elitist on this board :-)
In order to build a larger yet leaner body you have to be dedicated.
The extent of dedication may vary but go to any bodybuilding show and you will see degree's of dedication even though every one is on stage.

Not really - I've stood on stage but have been training less than 3 years. You have some people on here who have been training 10+ years, living the lifestyle of a bodybuilder but have not taken that final step on stage! If these people were to step on stage in condition they could make an impact imo!

No it was just a general question :) I suppose only Saunders can answer as to whether the question refers to competitive bodybuilders, or recreational.

I see where you're coming from though and perhaps I was harsh in my statement.

People who play football on the weekends with their friends call themselves footballs, even though they don't play profressionally - therefore recreational bodybuilders have a right to call themselves bodybuilders, despite not stepping on stage.

i guess my opinion isnt valid then

It comes down to the definition of 'bodybuilder'. I wasn't trying to cause offence.

What is the general consensus on this board then as to what a 'bodybuilder' is?

Well when I started the thread it was purely to do with weightlifting etc - I didn't necessarily mean standing on stage etc.
