Anyone ever had anything patented or applied for one?

Ive been in design for a couple of products and can’t seem to find anything remotely similar out there so just wondering if anyone has any experience with protecting design or intellectual property?

Cheers

Must have done several hundred through the IPO for firms i have worked for. I did brands, company names, logos etc.
Select the class you wish to apply within and see if there is anything similar to your own and how similar.
It is fairly straight forward once you get your head around the process.
If you're looking to seek a patent i would however get legal advice (patent attorney) as if a patent owner thinks you have violated theirs, all hell can break loose. It is possibly one of the fastest incurrance of legal costs i have seen as you'll get hit by the Claimants costs and if they've emoloyed a top US firm or similar the hourly rates and billable time is beyond belief.

Designs/products are more challenging than say a trademark. E.g. If you wanted to brand a company name called Coca Cola, you'd go on the IPO and see quite clearly it is trademarked.
Obvious example but serves a point.

Design is more challenging in the sense lets say you developed a 'jam' and wanted to patent the ingredient profile. This would be hard as you'd have to demonstrate something so unique about one element of your jam that can be patented, as clearly you can't patent the use of sugar and fruit to make a jam.
Again not the best example but just trying to demonstrate the challenges faced.

makes perfect sense, I’ve done a little research and can’t see anything like one product. The other is a variation on a theme (engineering wise) that doesn’t seem to have translated into the product I’m looking at. So more research needed!

to get a better understanding of what you want to patent post them up here and I will have a look. work at Aldi so your secrets safe
