Some Thoughts on Powerlifting

Some Thoughts on Powerlifting

whats your (or anyones) view on starting in the sport?

not necessarily something I would be interested in but I have spoke to a few lads in the gym who have been interested in it but feel ''silly'' in their words as they seem weak...

one lad was telling me he wanted to get into it but couldn't bench 100kg yet, and was waiting until he had a better total, suppose its a bit like bb waiting to gain enough mass for a comp... many tell them no point if they look daft on stage, what is the pl group like? heard its more friendly and encouraging!

is there a basic level of strength the beginner should gain first to not look '' silly'' as he put it

Find an experienced PLer or group of PLers in the area and go train with them as much as possible.

If that's a no go try your best to improve technique (hard on your own with little experience but not impossible), come up with a solid plan and then enter a comp.

I wouldnt bother too much about numbers but if the gaols are attainable within a few months then set a comp date and use that as motivation to hit the goals at the comp. It is friendly so no-one will take the piss if not lifting heavy...

Nice post mate, and a good insight into the sport and lifting.

Need to pick your brains more I think.

Only wished I hit that 240kg dead earlier now :D arghhhh

You'd have got it mate if doing deads only prob, Ive hit it twice now in comps but doubt i could walk upto bar and do it atm!

Maybe on a good day, not done a lot of consistant training in the last 6weeks really so maybe was up against it but not afraid if trying tho

Rest will do more good than anything, its just hoisting it off floor, might have been too big a jump.

just some thoughts of my own :D

1) Equipped powerlifting has lost its edge!

As I am sure you know I prefer raw, I just feel its better for me... however I also watch the equipped guys and stand in awe of them... two different lifts imho and as you say there is not as much carry over as people think I believe... not sure its lost its edge but certainly raw is becoming more and more popular...

2) Dont live in a bubble

at the same time I dont think you should belittle your own accomplishments... eg if you break a record its not always due to who youre competing with on the day but you should look at who it was that held it previously... agreed though that some perspective is needed at times...

3) The Perfect Prick

lol...

4) Struggle to get 8 hours sleep per night? Well Boo-hoo -Deal with it!

so true mate... I think my avg nights sleep is more like 5-6 and the harder I train the more broken it is...

5) Dont be lazy with nutrition

Hey nothing wrong with jaffa cakes and jelly snakes :D but true mate Powerlifting does not = fat... um I am going on that diet soon I promise :D
