whats your (or anyones) view on starting in the sport?
not necessarily something I would be interested in but I have spoke to a few lads in the gym who have been interested in it but feel ''silly'' in their words as they seem weak...
one lad was telling me he wanted to get into it but couldn't bench 100kg yet, and was waiting until he had a better total, suppose its a bit like bb waiting to gain enough mass for a comp... many tell them no point if they look daft on stage, what is the pl group like? heard its more friendly and encouraging!

Find an experienced PLer or group of PLers in the area and go train with them as much as possible.
If that's a no go try your best to improve technique (hard on your own with little experience but not impossible), come up with a solid plan and then enter a comp.
I wouldnt bother too much about numbers but if the gaols are attainable within a few months then set a comp date and use that as motivation to hit the goals at the comp. It is friendly so no-one will take the piss if not lifting heavy...
