Why are most gym workouts for beginners machine-based?

Whenever, a beginner step into the gym, inspite of using free-weights their trainer tells them to use machine and create their whole workout routine based on machines only.

But, why? They had to pay extra for free-weights? No!

It is because the beginner is very prone to injury, as they are not familiar with using the free-weights.

While machines are made considering the average of person's body, with adjustable weights for different preferences.

Also, it is easy to use and has safety precautions which will help beginners to do their exercise without having prone to injury.

With machines, the movement of weights is much more controlled and balanced which decreases the risk of injury from lifting weights. This is because free weights can often tilt to one side straining muscles of that side, and allow a lot more opportunities for wrong technique (e.g. in heavier weighted squats, one can put extra pressure on their knee joint and there is a lot more room for error on the barbell).

Also, since this reduces how much weight is being controlled by your small stabilising muscles, this allows the trainee to focus on their bigger muscles and therefore reach a higher maximum on the machines and train their bigger muscles better i.e. "isolation".

Thus, if beginners do train with machines, it is to isolate bigger muscle groups, decrease risk of injury and allow for good technique.

while free weights are an essential component of a well-rounded strength training program, starting with machines can be a safe and effective way for beginners to build strength, learn proper form, and reduce the risk of injury as they begin their fitness journey.

Great isn’t it. I only squatted 6 plates a side due to learning on the squat machine lol.

Could you imagine if db’s came in really light weights or barbells could be lifted with no plates on to allow people to learn slowly at the beginning. What a world that would be.
