Deadlifts overrated

As with all of training, there is more than 1 way to skin a cat.

Can you get good results without DLs? Yes, obviously, many have and many will continue to do so. This doesn't make them redundant in a BBing sense and as BBers we can still get a lot from them, but if you train them like a PLer then there won't be much left in the tank for other lifts. I have done well off them and have had extensive time away from (conventional) DLing also

I do them at the end of my session and never to failure, they aren't that sort of lift.

I think those who love them harp on too much, and those who don't dismiss them too much but we all have different goals and needs from our training and the mistake made is not looking at the bigger picture when considering exercises.

As with everything I guess different people respond in different ways to them and any excercise...I've always done them on and off since I started training but never got the best out of them in terms of growth until recently - used to only real end up working lower back and traps.

Now put them at end of back and rear delt routine, wide grip and rack set with supports just off the floor, flare the lats out and up we go..Had to drop the weight a bit but feel much more in upper/outer back now which is what I wanted really..

Cant deny they're a good builder though

They might not be the best for building muscle, but they do build you up psychologically to handle big weights and overcome the fear you sometimes get when coming to the later, harder sets in a workout. Put it this way, which is more likely to leave you feeling exhausted for the next day, a hardcore 5 sets of 5 on deadlift or preacher curls to failure with drop sets? :)

I would be left feeling puzzled

What about Rack Deads though?

Id agree - full DLs have there issues and challenges - but Rack deads at knee level - can stimulate the back no end if done correctly - stick 280-350kg on them and rep and youll know your back was done the next morning, as it takes out the legs from them movement and forces alot of the upper body to come into play - and the final contraction is what nails it.

Anyone here do them?

i have had 3 big niggles with my lower back before that have resulted in me being fcked over for around 10-12 weeks.

all from deadlifting

it only takes one lapse in form to put you out of action

i am thinking of however of doing light sets at the end of my workout for 15-20 reps... not heavy

what do you think?

Been doing them for 3 months now on a squat rack. My hams never get exhausted.

i'd like to add i'm back deadlifting and all things going well so far.... i really need to bring my traps on and this will hit them hard

Really enjoy deadlifts and tbh, for my body, its the ultimate mass builder.

Also love that slightly dizzy feeling after it and breathing heavy after a set, WOOOOOOOOOO.

Bring it, not that I can lift much though.

love dead lifts! my fav. real good core exercise. never had a injury yet.

touch wood.

im with the rack pulls for back, however i still do normal deads every 3rd week but not on back day as they do effect the rest of the back session
