Intro
Whey protein is traditionally marketed for drinking with cold milk or water, and there is evidence that some of the health benefits of whey are lost when some of the proteins get denatured by heat. That said, if one is just interested in getting in protein for fueling muscle growth, then whey can be used in other "wheys" :whistling: which do not often come to mind, and on these cold winter days, a nice hot drink is ideal for keeping ones tummy warm and cosy.

The principles
To make a high protein hot chocolate, simply mix in some 20g Myprotein unflavoured whey into hot milk and add in some cocoa powder, for something that you can drink in this cold weather to keep you nice and warm whilst fueling your muscle growth.

Shaker danger
If you use a shaker, to combine the milk and whey, take care! Shaking hot liquids can cause a gas expansion which can result in the lid popping off and hot milk going all over you.

One solution to this is by giving a little shake whilst holding your finger over the lid, and relieving pressure every few seconds, opening the flap away from you.

An alternative is to mix up the whey and milk cold first (simply leave the bottle in the fridge for the bubbles to go down) then heat in the microwave.

A more luxurious recipe
Although the above is a simple basic recipe, I like to add a bit of a twist to mine.

I use:
  • Myprotein unflavoured impact whey protein
  • Skimmed milk (or the more fatty milks if one is so inclined)
  • Aero bubbly hot chocolate (contains a simple foaming agent)
  • A touch of chilli powder
  • Orange essence/flavoring ( to taste - I use a 1/2 teaspoon )

Mix the impact whey protein with the cold milk in a shaker, and leave in the fridge for the bubbles to settle a little. Some bubbles are ok though.

Heat this mix in the microwave, and pour into a cup containing the aero bubbly & chilli powder, then stir in the orange essence, and enjoy this froffy brew.

Alternatives
Vanilla essence also goes nicely with the orange, choc and chilli drink, as does vanilla and chilli.

Enjoy,
J

Nice J! How u think this would turn out if i did same with some mp latte i have with milk, the heat shouldn't totally destroy it no? :-/

Heating whey ( above about 70°C IIRC ) does denature the protein, but one should still get the amino building blocks one needs for their muscle building efforts.

I haven't tried it. Give it a try and post your findings up here. Experimenting is more than half the fun IMO.
