Lack Of Good Nutrition Tracker

Hi folks,

First time poster in this community :)

I was wondering if anyone else feels like there are still no good basic nutrition apps available in (at least in the UK) ?

My main gripe is that they don't display the information in the way I want to track it. Usually I want to see if I am in a calorie surplus or deficit over certain cadences such as across weeks or maybe even a view for the month but I don't feel like anything out there is built to provide these types of views to help me see if I am on track.

Interested to hear if anyone else feels the same way!

I'd like one that just lets me put in how much stuff I eat or plan to eat and then presents me with a summary of calories and macros for each meal and a daily total. Myfitnesspal and all that seems more complicated than I want.

Fitnesspal does exactly what you want tho.
How is it difficult to use? I personally find it really easy. Scan barcode, enter amount you eat, done.

Hmm, I tried it before and it was wanting to track every day and had like targets and stuff. I don't really use food with barcodes. I was wanting more something where I can put in say "meal 1: 200g oats, 100g whey; meal 2: 150g rice, 250g mince, etc" then it would spit out all the macros, like as a one off, not for entering every day. I just eat the same things every day for months once I've planned it out, then just adjust the quantities. Maybe I'll try myfitnesspal again and see it'll do it.

You can make custom foods and meals I think on myfitnesspal

This

it takes no time to create a custom meal that can be added and modified on a daily basis should proportions change.

gives you a daily summery of calls and macros. Think the premium paid version allows you to download the data in excel format and you can then do what you like with it.

more you can make a simple spreadsheet and add the data yourself,

Macros on android is pretty solid. It'll scan barcodess or you can add your own and it creates a list of stuff you've added. Easy breakdown of calories and macros. Also a very basic layout which is a plus.

I now use Carbon diet coach from Layne Norton and its great, especially the auto 'coach' adjustments whether losing, gaining or maintaining. Plug in your daily calories, and check in at the end of the week and it does the adjustments for you or which you can control how much of a loss or gain you aim to make each week.

I really need to sort my shit out and get back to tracking my food

Did it for years but just can’t be bothered now

Hurts me diet wise for sure

So do all of you focus on a daily totals? I find myself being more interested in daily averages across a week

e.g. average calories, macros and average deficit/surplus amount

This is the thing I can't seem to get from any app in a clean way, but maybe I am the only person who likes the information across a week rather than focusing on individual days?

I could never get on with my fitness pal, even though everyone told me how easy it was lol.
pen and paper, and the back food packaging / Google and build your own reference guide.
most people eat from an range of the same foods over and over so you soon build up a data base of what's relevant to you.

it works better if you use quill and ink and write on parchment obvs.

Carbon has an option for this, you can adjust your daily totals and it balances out your calories across the week. Only downside with carbon I've had so far is that it's a subscription, but has been top drawer so haven't minded the fee.
