At the turn of the new year, cardiff had a new gym open - an EasyGym. A friend of mine asked me to go with him, and I was not expecting what I found.
I went with the preconceptions that a gym with few staff, long opening hours and palm scanners, that it would be sparse on kit, however they seemed to have packed a lot of kit in there - 2 squat racks, 2 variable height cable cross overs, lots and lots of variable cable stacks (at least 8 that I counted), at least 6 pullup stations, at least 6 benchs, heavy bag, medicine balls, kettlebells, vibration plates and more cardio machines than I could count. They had a lot of unilateral cable rows too, and the weights stacks on the machines went a lot higher than DW. Plenty of Oly bars and weights too.
Opening hours are 0600-2300hr Mon-Sat and 0800-2000hr on Sundays.
There were no annoying adverts blasting out, of the type that they run constantly at DW Fitness Cardiff.
The downsides:
No pool, sauna, etc.
DB upto 50Kg
Low number of showers to maximum membership capacity - 4 showers in the mens.
Price: £17quid a month with no contract.
All in all, I was quite surprised and impressed by the whole place. It seems to be strong on the function side of things - lots of good kit, and no frills. I am giving it a run for a few weeks whilst the new years resolution folk invade the gym at DW, and whilst my expectations were for a short stint, the way things are going, it maybe longer.
