just thought i would like to see what everyones thoughts are on your post work-out shake...........what it should have in?

I know everyones thoughts vary and im just looking at adding a few things in to mine/changing product.

I have always just had protein, but now im considering adding carbs and a few other things.

thoughts please? this would be a useful thread for everyone in my opinion. :)

Protein and carbs, strength gains seemed to slow down during the time I was having protein on its own!

I've just started using musclepharms 'recon' which is carbs and amino's, it's a juice like consistency, I'm quite enjoying not drinking a conventional shake post workout as I feel less bagged up and find I feel ready to eat my ppwo meal a lot quicker.

whey isolate and dextrose for a standard shake , creatine and BCAA's If feeling fancy

any form of simple carbs to offset the catobolism

be it from carb poweder, or even haribo...just get the carbs in.

No carbs and slin and then carbs before the next time you train.. but I'm against the grain lol.

if feeling fancy............ha ha quality

im looking at stepping it up to isolate and carbs with a few added bits in......

Does the carb source matter? eg dextrose, maltodextrin, oats, mars bar, fruit etc etc

just seen your post IB......so the source doesnt matter?

I'm fully aware of the theory behind this but I don't believe for a second that it is the optimal route for recovery/muscle building.

I'd say this protocol was more suited to someone who was happy with thier muscle mass and looking to get/stay lean.

I think its a great way of gaining muscle and staying lean. As long as calories where on point. Better than keeping glycogen filled all the time anyway as you don't benefit from super recomp all the time, with this you do.

I use a mix, slow and quick release protiens, carbs, aminos, BCCA, glousamine, L-Carnitine.
stops the post workout shakes and seens to work for me

wow lots of over complicating going on here, keep it simple,is worked for eons,carbs/prot and be done with it :)

ha ha good answer weeman.......

what type of protein (isolate etc) and what carb source would be ideal

I just have whey protein with an apple and a banana, or 2 banana's if I'm feeling fruity

I'm sure DVLT has posted before that it doesn't matter if you have it pre or post workout,
although I can't imagine it being a great idea before deads or squats

*Cough* cocoa pops & pp *cough*.......
