Fortitude Training (Review)

Pussy..jk

Had a similar convo with you last year about the heat and training legs.
Been in trouble breathing a few times myself, trouble is you dont know you've done it till 5/10 seconds after the set..

Always hits me around set 3, then I think "oh boy, here we go"

Muscle rounds are soul destroying if you're not in awesome shape is my conclusion!
Last time I did these I was lighter and leaner talking low 200's at a true 8%.
Now I am over 220lb at a true 10% and I had to end a set early yesterday as I honestly thought I may keel over and die:lol:
Now yes it's nearly a 100 degrees in NC atm but my AC is set at 70 so you would think it's doable but it's not!

Now I am going to have to bring a portable fan around the gym with me and perhaps a bucket of ice to plunge my head into after sets so I don't feel panicky as fuck after sets.
I swear it took me 10 minutes to calm down after a muscle round of smith squats today.
It just felt like I had no air flow and I couldn't get enough oxygen in!
Perhaps those little oxygen bottles that was all the rage a year or two ago would help?

Srsly I consider my self in decent cardiovascular shape so I have no idea how any one who is not in tip top shape should get through these!

Using a really tough weight for 24 reps is not doing it right....
You need to pick a weight where you fail after 3-5 mini sets of 4 and then drop enough to finish off all 6 sets of 4.
Once your strength level is decently high this is insane for any thigh compound exercise.
Doing more than one of these atm is totally out of the question and possibly asking for a heart attack:angry:
I think we need to see a video of you doing these...

You want to see me stumbling about and throwing cold water over my face muttering "fuck fuck fuck".
You sick sadist bastard:D:lol:

@round 2 exactly mate it's not until after and you're trying to breath and you start freaking as it feels like you can't that it really kicks in!
My training partner doesn't suffer nearly as bad.
I tell him it's because he's 3 inches taller and 20lb lighter.....chances are he's just in better shape than me though:rofl:

I just cannot remember MR's being so hard.
However, at around 200lb I am insanely fit because it's very light for me!

Haha I am sure we all want to see you getting owned by an exercise :D
But in seriousness, a lot of people on here doing MRs and FT, I like to think I work out hard but what you descibe is on another level. It would be interesting to see at what intensity you actually reach when doing them!

It's based on several things though not only intensity.
How well you slept, how you ate, did you take a stim (NEVER take a stim and do muscle rounds is my advice), are you heavier or more bloated than usual.
All these things can effect heart rate and that's what gets you on these....a high heart rate.
Hell even Scott who is obviously ultra used to them says his heart rate can go up to his age predicted max doing them!
Thus what gets me one day may not get me tomorrow.
Also what feels like a near death experience may not look nearly as brutal as it feels....it all depends.

This is not a MR but this set took me 20 minutes to recover from.
What you don't see on the video is the fact that gym was about 110 degrees (no AC in the middle of summer).
I mean it looks like decent intensity but not 20 minutes of laying on the floor trying to get the breathing slower intense!
P.S. At least two of those plates are 100lb plates....it's heavier than it looks lol

Yea gotcha, know what you mean. That machine looks awesome by the way!

Smith squats and Romanian DL's (with a Smith or with dumbbells) may be the toughest exercises for a MR.

I've not worn a HR monitor lately (mine needs a new battery), but I've gotten pretty decent at measuring my own HR over the years and have had mine up above my age-predicted HR max (which would be 175 using the standard formula, but there is actually a great deal of variation there). I've gone above what I counted at >200bpm in the past year (and done two separate sequential 15 second counts to confirm this). I'm sure there's some measurement error b/c 1.) my HR, breathing and mental state is kind of out of whack and 2.) that's just such a rapid HR it's tough to count. OTOH, there's no missing the heart beat as you can feel it in your chest (no need to even palpate). LOL

But, yes, @Con, you're not alone in noting that things are easier at a lighter weight, for sure. (Heard that from a few clients now, and noticed it myself.) :)

The closest I've been to death is

Smith front squat, smith squat, smith sissy hack, sumo dead and GHR using a Lat Pulldown muscle rounds. The GHR is particularly bad.

Like con said, gasping for breath saying fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck is how it normally ends.

Don't think I've ever seen anyone else push a set near that point at my gym before... Gets plenty of looks! :/

Yeah I think so.
I haven't used that gym since that day because it's at a gym I no longer go to.
It's located about 10 miles from where I live now but owning my own gym it makes no sense to have a gym membership!

I had a go at somersault squats today but don't think I've quite nailed the technique!

Suggestions for thigh/quad mr exercises that uses stuff that can be found in most gyms? (We have no hack squat machine :()

Why not actually do traditional hacks with the barbell behind your back.

Or sissy squat
